Amusan ‘exceedingly grateful’ for historic hat-trick of African Games 100m hurdles title
Tobi Amusan says she is ‘exceedingly grateful’ to God for her historic accomplishments at the African Games after winning her third straight gold medal in the 100m hurdles.
The former world champion and reigning world record holder ran 12.89 seconds to win the 100m hurdles gold at the 13th edition of the games in Accra, Ghana last week.
The 26 year old has now successfully defended her high hurdles gold twice to make history as the first woman in Games history to successfully defend a 100m hurdles gold and the first to win it three times consecutively.
She also anchored the women’s 4x100m relay to gold to make it four gold medals in three Africa Games appearances.

Amusan will now shift her focus to both the Diamond League circuit and the African Championships where she will be keen to become the second woman to win a Diamond League 100m hurdles title four straight times and the third to win an African Championships title three consecutive times after Maria Usifo (1984, 1985 and 1988) and Glory Alozie (1996,1998 and 2000).
She will also be looking to win gold in the event at the Olympics later this summer in Paris, France and become the first Nigerian to win a World and Olympic gold medal in track and field.
