Amusan missing as Olympic champion, Camacho-Quinn battles world leader, Russell in pre-Paris Olympics face off in Hengelo

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will likely be missing in action on Sunday at the Fanny Blankers-Koen, FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands where reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn will battle four of the seven fastest women in the 100m hurdles this year, including world leader, Russell Masai.

Amusan’s name is, so far, not among those listed as confirmed on the website of the organizers of the World Athletics Continental Tour gold meeting, an event that will definitely test how prepared the newbies, as it were, are against the old guard led by Camacho-Quinn whose 12.45 personal season’s best ranks her the 12th fastest so far this year.

Russell raced inside 12.40 twice before storming to a 12.25 lifetime best to move top of the world list in the event.

The 24 year old’s time is the fastest in the world since August last year when Kendra Harrison ran 12.24 in the opening round of the 100m hurdles at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.

Also listed are reigning European champion in the event, Cyrena Samba-Mayela who ran a new 12.31 lifetime best last month in Italy, USA’s Alaysha Johnson who also ran 12.31 to come second behind Russell at the USA Olympic trials as well as 2019 world champion, Nia Ali who missed out of a place in the USA Olympic team despite running 12.37 at the US Trials.

Rising Swiss star, Ditaji Kambundji is also confirmed for the all-stars race and has sped to a 12.40 finish this season.

Camacho-Quinn will be hoping to prove the emerging stars will still have some catching ups to do, something that can boost Amusan’s confidence as the Nigerian will also be keen to react to the incredible results both at the USA Olympic trials and the Jamaican Championships where Ackera Nugent ran 12.28 seconds to win.
