Amusan on the brink of Diamond League final as Duplantis and Mahuchikh confirmed as first qualifiers

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan is just one win or runner-up finish away from booking her spot in the 2025 Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich, following a strong season that puts her second in the 100m hurdles standings with 17 points—behind America’s Grace Stark who leads with 35.

With just two meets left—Silesia and Lausanne—the defending champion needs one last push to reclaim her place among the elite eight who will compete in Zurich next month. If successful, Amusan will have the chance to win back the title she lost in 2024 and further cement her legacy.

The 28-year-old sprint star previously won the Diamond Trophy in 2021 and 2022 in Zurich and captured her third consecutive title in Eugene in 2023, becoming only the second woman to achieve that feat in the 100m hurdles.

In outstanding form and with the Zurich track historically favoring her, Amusan could notch a fourth win in five final appearances. She may be Nigeria’s sole representative this year—just like Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was in 2024.

Meanwhile, Pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis and high jump ace Yaroslava Mahuchikh are the first international stars confirmed for the Wanda Diamond League Final on August 27–28 in Zurich.

The world record holders and Olympic champions will compete on the iconic street stage outside Zurich’s opera house, a highlight of the first day of competition.

Duplantis enters with a flawless record this season, including five Diamond League wins and a jaw-dropping 6.28m clearance in Stockholm. Mahuchikh qualified early with dominant wins in Xiamen and Keqiao, despite suffering defeats in her last three outings.

A victory would mark Duplantis’s fifth straight Diamond Trophy, inching him closer to Lavillenie’s all-time record of seven. Meanwhile, Mahuchikh is gunning for her fourth title, potentially tying Mariya Lasitskene for the most high jump wins in Diamond League history.
