Amusan Returns to Lausanne Seeking First Diamond League Win Since 2023
World record holder and three-time Diamond League champion Tobi Amusan will line up in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 50th edition of Athletissima Lausanne, aiming to secure her first Diamond League victory in nearly two years.
The Nigerian star last won on the circuit in September 2023, when she claimed her third consecutive Diamond League title at the final in Eugene, Oregon, clocking 12.33 seconds to cap a turbulent season.
Since then, Amusan has remained a consistent presence in the Diamond League, but victory has eluded her in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Her most recent outing in Silesia saw her finish third in a tightly contested race, posting 12.25s, just behind Masai Russell (12.19s) and Tonea Marshall (12.24s).
Amusan returns to Stade Olympique de la Pontaise with unfinished business. She finished second at Athletissima in both 2022 and 2023, narrowly missing out on the top spot. This year, she enters the Lausanne leg ranked second in the Diamond League standings with 23 points, trailing only Grace Stark.
The women’s 100m hurdles field in Lausanne is stacked with elite talent, including Russell, Kendra Harrison, Ackera Nugent, and Megan Tapper, all of whom have posted sub-12.40 times this season.
Amusan’s Diamond League journey began in 2018, and while her early years were marked by near misses, she has since built a formidable résumé.
She made history in 2021 by becoming the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League title, claiming victory at the final in Zurich.
She successfully defended her title in 2022, winning in Paris and again in Zurich. In 2023, she added wins in Stockholm, Silesia, and the final in Oregon, becoming only the second woman in Diamond League history to win three consecutive 100m hurdles titles, following Dawn Harper-Nelson5.
With the Diamond League Final in Zurich just a week away and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo looming, Lausanne represents a critical opportunity for Amusan to regain momentum.
From a season-opening 12.74s in Xiamen to her current best of 12.24s in Paris, she has steadily sharpened her form.
