Amusan set for 34th head to head clash with Williams on 43rd anniversary of Bob Marley’s death
There will be loads of reggae music in the air when World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan of Nigeria storms the Lion’s den to confront home girl and reigning World 100m hurdles champion, Danielle Williams at the 2024 Jamaica Athletics Invitational on Saturday May 11 in Kingston, Jamaica.
A global icon of reggae music, Bob Marley, born February 6, 1945 died May 11, 1981. Today marks the 43rd anniversary of his death. It is also the day Amusan chose to go head-to-head with her bossom friend, Williams, a two-time World 100m hurdles champion and 2019 World champion, Nia Ali.
Amusan trails 14 wins to 19 defeats in head to head encounters with Williams while the petite Nigerian is 13-8 up against Ali.
The last time Amusan visited Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica, she returned with the gold medal, as it were, at the 2023 Racers Grand Prix, running 12.57 for the win.
The Nigerian will be eager for a repeat performance to make up for her disqualification at the Diamond League meeting in Suzhou last month in Suzhou, China.
