Amusan Set for Fierce Diamond League Showdown in Xiamen
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will face one of the toughest fields of her career when she lines up in the women’s 100m hurdles at the third leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League in Xiamen, China, on May 23.
The former world champion and three-time Diamond League winner is chasing her first victory at the venue, having finished fifth in 2024 and fourth in 2025.
Amusan, who turns 29 in April, will be up against reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji, US Olympic champion Masai Russell, and Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent, the defending Diamond League champion.
Russell enters the season in blistering form after setting a Diamond League record of 12.19 in Silesia last year, while Nugent will be eager to begin her title defence strongly following her triumph in Zurich.
The field also features two world record holders: Amusan herself, who set the outdoor mark at 12.12 in 2022, and Devynne Charlton, the indoor 60m hurdles record holder.
With six of the world’s top ten hurdlers confirmed, the Xiamen clash promises to be an early-season test of form in what is currently one of the most competitive and unpredictable disciplines in athletics.
Amusan ran 12.58 into a -0.2 headwind in 2024 in Xiamen, and returned in 2025 with 12.74 under similar conditions. This year, she is determined to secure her first win at the venue as part of her bid to reclaim the Diamond League crown she surrendered in 2024.
The Xiamen meet is one of 15 stops in the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 8 and concludes with the two-day series final in Zurich on September 4–5.
