Amusan shifts focus to Diamond League final in Oregon
Nigerian seeking to become second woman to win title three consecutive times
Former World 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan has shifted focus to next month’s Diamond League final in Oregon, USA where she will be defending her title for the second straight season.
The Nigerian who came sixth in the event’s final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday will be seeking a third straight Diamond League title at the stage where she accomplished her greatest triumph on the track.
The 26 year old ran a 12.12 world record on the way to winning a historic world outdoor title at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon last year.
Amusan will be hoping to end her season on a glorious note after the emotional trauma she suffered following her provisional suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, for three Whereabouts Failures, subsequent clearance after over a month of uncertainty and her unsuccessful world title defence.
Amusan is joint top with Nia Ali in the Diamond League standing with just one race left (Zürich) before the final in Oregon on September 16 and 17.
She was second in Lausanne behind Jasmine Camacho-Quin and won in Stockholm and Silesia to garner 23 points, same as Ali who has competed four times in the competition.
The reigning Commonwealth Games champion will be seeking to become only the second woman after Dawn Nelson-Harper of the USA to win three Diamond League 100m titles in a row .
