Amusan to battle Williams, Charlton and Harisson for USTAF New York Grand Prix 100m hurdles title
Tobi Amusan, the fastest 100m hurler in history (12.12) and fastest so far in 2024 (12.40) will headline a star-studded cast of high hurdlers on Sunday at the USATF New York Grand Prix, the sixth stop on World Athletics’ Continental Tour Gold.
Amusan, the 2022 World Champion will be joined by her successor, Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, Deyvnne Charlton, the reigning World Indoor 60m champion and record holder and Kendra Harisson, the former World record holder at 12.20 who defeated the Nigerian over the distance at the adidas Atlanta City Games last month.
The Nigerian will be seeking to extend her stay at the top of the 2024 World List as she prepares to become the first Nigerian woman to win a track title and the first to win both the Olympics and the world title.
The 27 year old raced to the top of the world list early last month when she sped to a 12.40 personal season’s best at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational Meet in Kingston, Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Olympic Champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is also returning to compete at the event for the second straight year and she will be competing in the 400m flat, an event in which she ran 48.74 last year to become the 10th fastest in history.
The 24 year old joins previously announced top athletes including Noah Lyles, Gabby Thomas, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Fred Kerley.
