Amusan to begin battle to reclaim Diamond League title in Xiamen in April 2025
Ese Brume to start long jump action in Stockholm in June
Tobi Amusan will likely begin her battle to reclaim the Diamond League 100m hurdles title in Xiamen, China in April 2025 following the release by World Athletics of the calendar and the allocation of disciplines.
The Nigerian lost the chance to defend her title for the third time this year after she shut down her season after her misadventure to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 27-year-old has won the 100m hurdles title in the competition for three times in a row to become the second woman ever to do it since athletics’ premier one day meeting series was enlarged and rechristened Diamond League in 2010.
She was one of the athletes tipped to make it all the way to the final in Brussels, Belgium last month after boarding the Wanda Diamond League train at its first station in Xiamen this year.
She placed fifth in Xiamen but the world record holder will be keen to lay down the gauntlet from the opening leg of the competition next April in Xiamen as she will be eager to make up of the disappointment of 2024 and make a huge statement about her bid to not only reclaim her Diamond League title from Jasmine Camacho-Quinn but also her world title from Danielle Williams.
Like she did this year, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion may also want to race in Suzhou, also in China when the Diamond League train makes its second spot a week later.
Long jumper, Ese Brume was absent from the Diamond League arena in 2024 despite losing the title via countback in 2023 when she made it to her first final.
The 28-year-old has however been told she can only compete in the event when the train moves to Stockholm in Sweden for its seventh stop.
For Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, finalist in the competition this year, the earliest time he can be on the Diamond Train will be on 25th of May in Rabat, Morocco.
For Favour Ofili who Nigerians think should be competing in an arena where the world’s biggest stars compete across four different continents at 14 of the sport’s most prestigious one-day meetings, 2025 should be the year she will debut in the competition and it can be as early as in the opening two legs in Xiamen and Suzhou, both in China in April and May respectively.
