Amusan to return to Diamond League action in Silesia, Poland

World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan will return to Diamond League action at the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia, Poland on August 25 to continue her bid for a place in the final of athletics’ premier one-day series next month in Brussels, Belgium.

Amusan will be hoping to use her misadventure to the Paris 2024 Olympics where she could not run past the semifinals to propel her into successfully defending her Diamond League title for the third time as she seeks a record-equaling fourth win.

The 27-year-old will however need to qualify first before she can start dreaming of making history, yet again.

By the time the Nigerian arrives in Silesia, Poland, she may be needing either an outright win or place among the first four to still be in contention as six of the athletes who are in contention for spots in the final will be in Lausanne, Switzerland three days earlier at the 11th stop of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League.

Interestingly, some of the athletes in Lausanne, like two of the top three finishers in Paris at the Olympics will also be in Silesia while the reigning Olympic champion, Masai Russell will also be making her first post Paris Olympics appearance in the competition.

Russell holds a four-point lead over the Nigerian and she is placed fifth in the standing. Amusan has garnered just four points following her fifth-place finish in Xiamen, China in April.

Former Olympic champion in the event, Jasmine Camcho-Quinn leads with 16 points from two wins, followed by world indoor champion, Charlton Devynne with 14 points while Swiss girl, Kambundji Ditaji is third (13 points).

Two-time World champion, Danielle Williams (11 points), Olympic champion, Russell (eight points), Marshall Tonea of the USA (seven points), Skrzyszowska Pia of Poland (six points) and France’s former world indoor champion, Sambba-Mayela Cyrena (six points) complete the top eight.

The Diamond League final will hold over two days at the 48th Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, Belgium.
