Anthony Joshua Does Not Require Emergency Medical Intervention, in Communication With His Family
Anthony Joshua’s condition has been described as stable and conscious following the fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with officials confirming that the former world heavyweight champion does not require emergency medical intervention and has already spoken with his family.
The Ogun State government, in a joint statement with Lagos authorities, revealed that Joshua was taken to a specialised medical facility in Lagos after sustaining minor injuries in the crash that claimed two lives on Monday.
Kayode Akinmade, media aide to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said comprehensive clinical assessments had been carried out and confirmed that Joshua’s injuries were not life-threatening.
‘The boxer is conscious and has been in communication with his family,’ Akinmade noted, adding that a medical team has been assembled to monitor Joshua and another survivor closely.
The accident occurred around midday near the Sinoma area of Sagamu when the Lexus jeep carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck. The Federal Road Safety Corps later attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
Authorities confirmed that the two fatalities were foreign nationals, while Joshua, who was rushed from the scene, continues to recover under observation. The incident has sparked renewed calls for caution on Nigeria’s highways, with officials urging drivers to exercise patience and responsibility to prevent further tragedies.
