Anthony Joshua Survives as Ogun State Mourns Victims of Fatal Road Crash
The Ogun State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The crash, which occurred near the Makun axis of Sagamu, claimed the lives of two foreign nationals who died instantly when the sport utility vehicle conveying Joshua and others rammed into a stationary truck. Their remains have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua, who was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu, sustained minor injuries and was promptly rescued alongside the driver by security personnel attached to his convoy. Both were rushed to hospital and are currently receiving medical attention.
The severely damaged SUV has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division (MTD), while efforts are ongoing to tow the truck involved to the same location to aid investigations.
In a statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the Ogun State Government described the incident as ‘deeply unfortunate and painful,’ stressing the loss of precious lives and the injuries sustained by survivors.
The government urged motorists to exercise utmost caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, particularly during the festive season when vehicular movement is heavy.
Road safety officers and security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the state to safeguard lives and property.
‘Our hearts go out to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident, which the State considers a devastating loss. As we mourn collectively, we pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and for the speedy recovery of the injured. May Almighty God grant the families left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,’ the statement read.
