Aruna Quadri: I am ready for Paris 2024 Olympics

Aruna Quadri says he is physically and mentally ready to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics but cannot give any guarantees on a podium appearance.

‘I am ready for the Olympics and wants to give my best,’ said the 35 year old told Sports Ville, a television show monitored by SportsNow.com.ng.

Aruna reveals he has been training for the Games since the last one in Tokyo, Japan in 2021.

‘I have been preparing since the last Olympics. I have competed in many international competitions since then, competing against the best in the world,’ he revealed, but refused to categorically promise a medal.

‘The major objective is that I want to give my best which can translate to anything. In 2016, I was close to making the medal zone (semifinals) but lost my quarterfinal game to Ma Long, the eventual gold medal winner and World number one. I didn’t go that far five years later in Tokyo, which shows the unpredictability of the Games,’ added Aruna.

The Nigerian says he is not scared of Asian oppositions at the Games albeit he has not won against the world numbers one and two who are both Chinese.

‘I have won against many Asians but the only ones I have not been able to beat are the top two ranked in the world who are Chinese.’
