Ashley Anumba exits at first hurdle on her Olympic debut
Reigning African Discus throw champion, Ashley Anumba’s first trip to the Olympics has ended after she failed to scale the first hurdle.
The 25 year old was expected to either throw a new 64.00m lifetime best to secure a spot in the final or finish among the best 12 in the two qualifying groups.
The Nigerian did neither as her 58.83m effort could only fetch her the 14th spot in her qualifying group.
The duo of Chioma Onyekwere and Obiageri Amaechi are competing in the second qualifying group and will seek to salvage pride for Nigeria.
