ASVG and Nilayo Sports Management unite to launch Mary Onyali Classic in 2026

Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) has partnered with Nigeria’s premier sports marketing firm, Nilayo Sports Management Ltd, to deliver the Mary Onyali Classic, a world-class track and field event set to take place from May 23 to 25, 2026, at the iconic MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

With a proven track record organizing elite events like the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and the Nigerian National Sports Festival, Nilayo Sports Management, under the leadership of CEO Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, is poised to create a vibrant fusion of athletics and Nigerian culture.

Spectators can expect an electrifying atmosphere where sprinting meets Afrobeats, Suya, beer, and wine, all in celebration of Nigeria’s rich sporting heritage.

Nigeria’s legacy in global athletics is undeniable, with legends like Innocent Egbunike, Chidi Imoh, and Mary Onyali herself leading Africa’s golden era of sprinting.

The Mary Onyali Classic will honor that legacy by welcoming top-tier athletes from around the world and across Africa, transforming the event into a celebration of sport, unity, and culture.

Mrs. Olopade expressed her enthusiasm: ‘We’re thrilled to collaborate with ASVG to host a truly world-class meet. This is a chance to showcase Nigeria’s passion and excellence in sports while welcoming global stars to our soil.’

ASVG CEO Mr. Leslie Koroma echoed the excitement: ‘Partnering with Nilayo Sports Management is a major step forward. The Mary Onyali Classic will elevate athletics in Nigeria and strengthen Africa’s presence on the global track and field stage.’

Track icon Mary Onyali, serving as Meet Director and Global Ambassador, shared her heartfelt pride: ‘I’m deeply grateful and excited to see this dream come to life. The Mary Onyali Classic will inspire future champions and celebrate our cultural and athletic heritage.’

The event is part of the Legends Track and Field Series, a Pan-African initiative aimed at bringing world-class meets to the continent, empowering athletes, energizing fans, and driving economic growth through sport.
