At 37, Durant Rewrites NBA History with Season Milestone
Kevin Durant has etched his name into NBA history, surpassing Karl Malone to become the oldest player ever to score more than 2,000 points in a single season.
The 37-year-old forward reached 2,026 points this campaign, breaking Malone’s long-standing record set in the 1999/2000 season when the Utah Jazz legend achieved the feat at age 36. Durant’s milestone came during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 136-132 road victory over the Houston Rockets, a result that snapped the hosts’ eight-game winning streak.
Durant was instrumental in the win, contributing 33 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. His performance underscored his enduring quality and leadership, even in the twilight of his career.
The game itself was a thriller at the Toyota Center. Houston’s Amen Thompson produced a career-high 41 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, but his heroics weren’t enough to prevent defeat.
Turkish international Alperen Şengün also impressed with 22 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
For Minnesota, Terrence Shannon Jr added 23 points and Anthony Edwards chipped in with 22, ensuring the Timberwolves held off the Rockets’ late surge.
