Atalanta and Atletico Reach Agreement for Lookman, Player Yet to Decide

Atalanta and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Ademola Lookman, but the Nigerian forward has yet to give his final approval to the move.

The two clubs have settled the financial details of the deal, effectively clearing the path for Lookman’s departure from Bergamo.

However, the player himself remains undecided, with personal terms and long-term planning still to be agreed upon.

Lookman was left out of Atalanta’s squad for their upcoming clash with Como and trained separately at Zingonia on Saturday, while the rest of the team prepared under coach Raffaele Palladino at the New Balance Arena.

The hesitation stems in part from the lucrative offer Lookman previously had on the table from Fenerbahce. Before talks collapsed over banking guarantees, the Turkish club had promised him a staggering salary package worth €10 million per season, €8 million fixed plus €2 million in bonuses.

Atletico Madrid are unlikely to match such figures, leaving the player to weigh up his options carefully before committing to a move to Spain.

Lookman, formerly of Leicester City, has been a key figure for Atalanta in recent seasons, contributing goals and creativity to their attack.

Now, with the clubs aligned, the final decision rests with him: whether to accept Diego Simeone’s invitation to join Atletico and continue his career in La Liga, or hold out for a more financially rewarding opportunity elsewhere.
