Athletes Begin Registration for 2nd Niger Delta Games as States Activate Liaison Teams
The registration portal for the 2nd Niger Delta Games (NDG) is now open, allowing athletes and coaches from the nine participating states to begin their online registration.
The organisers have also constituted and inaugurated State Liaison Committees to support the process and ensure smooth coordination across the region.
With the portal now active, athletes from across the Niger Delta can formally register to compete in the multi-sport festival. The organisers have pledged to provide technical assistance to all participating states to guarantee an inclusive and efficient registration experience.
The Lead Consultant, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, KSM, represented by Project Director Fred Edoreh, oversaw the inauguration of the Liaison Committees in Ondo, Edo, and Delta States on Thursday and Friday at their respective state capitals.
Ikpokpo urged committee members to work collaboratively in carrying out their responsibilities on behalf of the organising committee. He emphasized the need for athlete trials to extend into all local government areas to ensure that every indigene has an opportunity to participate.
He outlined the duties of the State Liaison Committees, which include organising preliminary athlete trials from the local government level up to the final state level selections, ensuring that all selected athletes complete their online registration, and entering their details into the official Games portal.
The committees are also responsible for ensuring that trials and selections comply strictly with the general and technical rules of the Games.
Additionally, they are tasked with overseeing the camping and training of state contingents, arranging their transportation to and from the Games, and executing all directives issued by the Project Consultant, Dunamis Icon Limited.
In Ondo State, Commissioner for Sports Segun Henry Omoyofunmi was appointed Chairman of the State Liaison Committee. He will work alongside Dr. Henry Babatunde, who serves as Secretary, as well as Tunde Akinsemola, Segun Giwa, the Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and Mrs. Evelyn Lebi, the State Director of Sports.
Edo State’s Liaison Committee was inaugurated in Benin on Friday, with Hon. Amadin Enabulele named Chairman and Bright Idahosa appointed Secretary. Other members include Sogbayi Opeoluwa, Joseph Aghahowa, the State Director of Sports, and Kehinde Osagiede, Chairman of the State SWAN chapter.
During the inauguration, Enabulele reaffirmed Edo State’s readiness to host the region, assuring the organisers and participating states of the state’s commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality and an improved Games experience.
