Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, begins onboarding session for Favour Ofili
Nigeria’s 200m record holder indoors (22.46) and outdoor (21.96), Favour Ofili is among newly inducted Registered Testing Pool (RTP) athletes who are undergoing onboarding sessions organised by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU.
These sessions, according to the AIU in a tweet are part of regular support service which it provides to the elite athletes to help them understand their responsibilities and embrace the values of fair play and clean competitions.
Ofili was added to the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool late last year after her incredible performances on the track for her school, Louisiana State University, LSU in Texas, USA.
The 19 year old had a spectacular second season as a student athlete at LSU, setting new personal bests in the 60m (7.17) which catapaulted her to ninth in the Nigerian all-time list and 10.93 in the 100m outdoor which ranks her the third fastest Nigerian ever.
In the half lap, Ofili ran 22.46 to become the fastest African indoors while her 21.96 outdoor is the first and only sub-22 seconds performance by a Nigerian in the event.
Athletes at the highest level of their sport like Ofili are inducted into the Registered Testing Pool.
Ofili is the sixth Nigerian to be inducted so far after reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record, Tobi Amusan and World indoor and outdoor championships long jump silver medalist, Ese Brume.
Others are Divine Oduduru, the reigning Nigeria 200m record holder (19.73) and second fastest ever in the 100m (9.86); 2019 World Athletics Championships Shot Put finalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Tokyo Olympics 100m finalist, Enoch Adegoke.
As RTP athletes, the six Nigerians are required to provide whereabouts information on a quarterly basis about their home address, email address and phone number.
They are also expected to provide an address for overnight accommodations, regular activities, such as training, work, and school, the locations and the times of these activities, competition schedules and locations.
A 60-minute time slot for each day where they’ll be available and accessible for testing and liable for a potential ‘missed test’ must also be provided.
