Atlético Madrid win transfer battle, but Lookman holds the war

Ademola Lookman’s future remains unresolved despite Atlético Madrid appearing to have gained the upper hand in negotiations with Atalanta.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Fenerbahçe tabled an improved salary package worth €8.5 million net plus add-ons per season, alongside an agreement on a €40 million transfer fee with Atalanta.

However, the Turkish giants have yet to settle key details regarding payment terms and bank guarantees, leaving their bid incomplete.

Atlético, by contrast, have struck a full agreement with Atalanta on both the €40 million fee and payment structure, giving them a clear edge in the race.

The Spanish club are now waiting for Lookman’s response to their contract proposal, confident that their financial clarity strengthens their position.

Yet, while Atlético may have ‘won the battle’ in terms of negotiations with Atalanta, the ‘war’ is far from over.

The Nigerian forward ultimately holds the power to decide his next destination, weighing Fenerbahçe’s lucrative salary offer against Atlético’s competitive sporting project in La Liga.
