Austin Eguavoen: Eagles will be ready for Egypt in Group D AFCON opener
Super Eagles interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen says his team will be ready for the Pharaohs of Egypt in their Africa Cup of Nations Group D opener on January 11, 2022.
Eguavoen admits that the Super Eagles will not find the Egyptians easy nuts to crack despite coming to the tournament with a star-studded squad led by the likes of Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place between 9 January 2022 and 6 February 2022 across five cities in Cameroon.
“I played against Egypt as a player and as a coach. Facing them in the Africa Cup of Nations will not be an easy task,” Nigeria interim manager told the Nigerian Football Federation TV.
“We will do everything possible to analyse the Egyptian national team, individually and collectively, in order to draw up our plans.
“We also expect Egypt to do so because Nigeria is a big name in African football.
“We are currently studying the Egyptian national team, and we will continue to do so until we are prepared to face them,” he added.
Eguavoen played Egypt once as player, in the group stage of the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Super Eagles then went on to lift the trophy after beating Zambia in the final, in what became their second of a total of three AFCONs in the country’s history.
