Awaziem: Super Eagles must win AFCON to erase World Cup pain

Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem has made it clear that the Super Eagles must use the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as redemption for their failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria missed out on the global showpiece for the second consecutive time after losing the CAF play-off final to DR Congo last month, but Awaziem insists the team cannot dwell on that disappointment.

Speaking in an interview on Nantes’ official website, the 26-year-old centre-back stressed that winning AFCON is the only way to make up for the setback and restore pride to Nigerians.

‘Win the AFCON. I don’t like to think about this failure to qualify for the World Cup. For us, for the country, for our loved ones, we must correct the mistake,’ he said.
