Awoniyi Delighted Scoring First Premier League Goal Since January 2025!

Taiwo Awoniyi is celebrating his first Premier League goal in over a year, having last found the net on 6 January 2025 against Wolves. The Nigerian striker struck in Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 defeat of Brentford, scoring from the team’s very first touch in the opposition box during the second half.

Introduced with 22 minutes left in regulation time, Awoniyi wasted no time. He picked up the ball in the Brentford half with only Sepp van den Berg to beat, glided past him, and kept his composure as another defender slid across his path. With calm precision, he slotted the ball home to secure the win.

The goal marked his 18th in 81 Premier League appearances and his first in six meetings against Brentford.

Speaking after the game, Awoniyi expressed his delight:

‘We’re so happy because coming into the game, we needed to win. Getting the three points here with a clean sheet as well is something good for the team going forward.’

He praised the team’s collective effort:

‘It’s about doing the basics and being ready to fight for every ball, which is what we did today in the game. We just played for each other.’

On his decisive strike, he added:

‘At 1-0 we were just defending and defending. We said to ourselves at half-time that we needed one more goal. It was a great team effort… One-on-one with the defender, I just took my time in the box and passed it into the net.’
