Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest Future Uncertain as Dyche Eyes New Striker

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that the club is actively pursuing a new striker in the January transfer window, a move that could place Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi closer to the exit door.

Awoniyi has endured a difficult spell over the past two seasons, struggling with injuries and fitness issues that have limited his opportunities.

The former Union Berlin star has managed just one Premier League start this season and was left out of Forest’s Europa League squad.

The Reds’ lack of firepower was evident in their 1-0 defeat to Braga on Thursday, a result widely attributed to their blunt attack.

With Igor Jesus and Chris Wood sidelined by injuries and Arnaud Kalimuendo loaned out to Frankfurt, Dyche’s options up front have been severely depleted.

Forest have been linked with Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca, as Dyche admitted the club is working hard to strengthen its frontline.

‘We’re certainly working on it. The club know, they’re aware. They can see the situation. So yeah, we’re certainly working on it. We’ll see,’ he told TNT Sports after the game in Portugal.

Awoniyi, who was close to joining West Ham last summer before the deal collapsed, now faces an uncertain future at the City Ground.
