Bad Belle: Thierry Henry Says A lot of People Don’t Want Arsenal to Win the Premier League

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has suggested that many neutrals are unwilling to see the Gunners crowned Premier League champions this season, despite their commanding position at the top of the table.

Henry’s comments came after Arsenal’s victory over Everton, which extended their lead to nine points.

‘A lot of people are like, anything but Arsenal winning the league. I wanted Liverpool to win the league because I wanted Jamie [Carragher] to win the league, Stevie G [Steven Gerrard] to win the league,’ Henry said on Sky Sports, monitored by Sportsnow.

‘Whether I like Liverpool or not, you root for the underdog, the team that couldn’t do it, or failed to win the league. But a lot of people don’t want Arsenal to win the league.’

Carragher, who was alongside Henry in the studio, agreed that Arsenal’s approach has drawn criticism. He pointed to Mikel Arteta’s animated presence on the touchline, the club’s style of football, and the fanbase as factors that may rub some supporters the wrong way.

Henry’s perspective carries weight given his history with the club. He was part of the Arsenal side that last lifted the Premier League trophy 22 years ago in the 2003–04 season, famously going unbeaten throughout the campaign.

Over his career at Arsenal, Henry featured in 377 matches across all competitions, scoring 228 goals. In the Premier League alone, he made 258 appearances, scoring 175 times and providing 74 assists, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in English football history.
