‘Big time boxing comes to Lagos!: Okolie leads star-studded Boxing Card this December

British Nigerian heavyweight boxer Lawrence Okolie is set to headline a landmark boxing event in Lagos on December 19, marking his first professional bout on African soil.

The card, promoted by Queensberry Promotions under the leadership of Frank Warren and Amir Khan, is being hailed as a historic moment for Nigerian and African boxing.

Okolie, 32, a former cruiserweight and bridge weight world champion, was born in Nigeria and returns to his country of birth with a professional record of 22 wins, 16 by knockout, and one loss.

His opponent for the Lagos showdown is yet to be announced, but anticipation is already building for what promises to be a high-profile night of heavyweight action.

The event is part of a growing wave of boxing interest across West Africa. Just one day later, Matchroom Boxing, led by Eddie Hearn, will stage a show in Ghana on December 20, with speculation mounting that Anthony Joshua could fight in either Ghana or Nigeria early next year.

Joining Okolie on the Lagos card will be David Adeleye, a rising British heavyweight contender whose parents are Nigerian.

Adeleye’s inclusion adds further star power to a night designed to showcase both international talent and Nigeria’s emerging boxing prospects.

Former light welterweight world champion Amir Khan, now head of AK Promotions, expressed pride in bringing the event to Lagos.
