‘Boniface given a few days off to recover from his emotional shock,’ Alonso reveals why Nigerian did not make UCL trip to Brest
Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso says Nigeria’s Victor Boniface has been given a few days off to recover from the emotional shock he suffered from the car accident he had at the weekend.
Boniface was not in the reigning German champions’ UEFA Champions League trip to Brest for Wednesday’s match day three fixture against their host, Ligue 1 side, Brest at the Municipal du Roudourou in Guingamp, northwest of France.
Speaking to the media in Guingamp on Tuesday, Alonso provided some updates on Boniface.
‘We learned about his road accident on Sunday morning. Fortunately, it wasn’t too serious. He has small cuts on his foot and hand. In a way, he was very lucky.
‘But he hasn’t trained normally since and we’re going to give him a few days to recover from this emotional shock,’ said Alonso
Boniface scored the only goal in Leverkusen’s win against AC Milan at the BayArena in Germany about two weeks ago in a Match day two fixture.
It was the Nigerian’s first goal in two appearances in his debut at Europe’s elite club competition.
