Boniface out until April, Moffi replaces Bayer Leverkusen star

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Victor Boniface suffered an injury to his groin at the Nigeria training camp in Dubai and has been ruled out of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations which starts this weekend in Cote D’Ivoire.

The club says that was the outcome of an MRI examination Tuesday afternoon in Cologne.

‘Boniface will undergo an operation in the next few days. The 23-year-old striker will probably be able to return to the Bayer 04 squad at the beginning of
April,’ wrotee the club on their official website.

Meanwhile, OGC Nice forward Terem Moffi has received a last-minute call-up to Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad following Boniface’s forced withdrawal through injury.

Moffi, who has four goals in 14 appearances for the Super Eagles, has struggled for form with Nice this season, and as a result, he initially missed out on Nigeria’s AFCON squad, however, Boniface’s injury has opened a route to selection.
