Boniface resumes Europa League top scorer’s battle with Rashford on Thursday

Victor Boniface will on Thursday resume his Europa League top scorer battle with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford when he leads the line for his Belgian side, Union St.Gilloise host German Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their quarterfinal clash at the Lotto Park in Brussels, Belgium.

The Nigerian netted in the first leg played at the BayArena to put his side up after the restart before the home team scored through Florian Wirtz to end the tie 1-1.

With that goal, Boniface has now scored six times and provided two assists in the competition so far this term to draw level with Rashford who has netted six goals and bagged two assists in eight games.

Boniface, 22, has scored three times at the Lotto Park in the competition and will be aiming for his fourth goal in five home appearances in the competition which he will be hoping will be enough to guide his side to the semifinals.

Rashford on the other hand will undergo a late fitness test to determine his availability when the Red Devils storm the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan to face Seville who benefitted from two own goals to earn a draw in the first leg at Old Trafford last week.

This has been a near rollercoaster season for Boniface who Union St.Gilloise last season and has scored 23 times in 66 games across all competitions.

Interestingly, 20 of the goals have come in the ongoing season with six in the Europa League, seven in 30 Jupiler League games, five in UEFA Champions League qualifying games and two in the Belgian Cup.
