Boniface: Why I Joined Werder Bremen

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has expressed strong confidence in Werder Bremen’s project following his surprise deadline-day move to the Bundesliga club.

‘The talks with those in charge convinced me to make the move to Werder. I want to contribute with my performances so that we can achieve our common goals this season. I’m looking forward to my new team and my time at Werder,’ Boniface said after sealing the loan move.

Boniface, 24, trained briefly with Bayer Leverkusen earlier on transfer deadline day before finalizing the transfer to Bremen.

His current market value is estimated at €40 million, though Werder are believed to have secured the deal on favorable terms due to the striker’s recent fitness concerns.

Despite a medical history that includes two cruciate ligament ruptures sustained during his time at Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt, Werder proceeded with the signing.

The striker’s injury record had previously deterred other Bundesliga clubs and contributed to the collapse of proposed moves to Al-Nassr and AC Milan earlier this year.

Milan, in particular, withdrew after Boniface failed a medical examination.
