Botched AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Libya gets CAF’s Sunday deadline for submission of documents, hire special lawyer
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the Libyan Football Federation until Sunday October 20 to submit documents related to the cancellation of the Libya-Nigeria match following the refusal of the Super Eagles to hour the return leg match after the ValueJet plane carrying them to Benina, venue of the match was diverted to a local airport in Al-Abraq and the team held hostage without water, food and internet access for almost 20 hours.
Nasser Al-Suwaii, the Libya Football Federation Secretary General disclosed this to Libyan news outlet, Al-Ahrar
Al-Suwaii said CAF gave the Libyan and Nigerian federations until the twentieth of this month to submit documents related to match and the incident and he revealed a specialized lawyer has been handed the case.
The Libya FA Secretary General does not however feel his federation can get justice in the face of the incontrovertible evidence that have been trending on social media and believes there may be collusion from some parties within CAF and insists the position of the Libyan federation is strong.
Al-Suwaii added that the Libyan Federation was not responsible for the diversion of Nigeria’s chartered plane to Al-Abraq airport, and the reason for changing the landing of the plane to Al-Abraq is a decision by the Libyan state and that the sovereignty of the Libyan state must be respected by all.
