Botswana and Kenya among 12 nations to host 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold

Like it was last year, Botswana and Kenya are among the 12 nations across the globe to host the 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, according to World Athletics.

The 13 meetings scheduled to hold in five different continents will feature in calendar published Tesday by World Athletics.

According to World Athletics, Gold level action will kick off on 29 March in the Australian city of Melbourne, where World Athlete of the Year and Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo is due to compete.

The train then moves to the African continent where Botswana will host the first of the two events scheduled for the continent, the Botswana Continental Tour in Gaborone on April 12.

The series then heads Asia where Tokyo will host the Golden Grand Prix on May 18 which will act as a dress rehearsal of sorts for the World Championships later in the year.

Continental Tour Gold action continues throughout that month with Zagreb (22-24 May), Bydgoszcz (30 May) and Nairobi (31 May) all hosting top-level meetings.

The Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Kenya has always produced some fast times and the trend is expected to continue in 2025.

Los Angeles (June 8), Hengelo (June 9), Turku (June 17), New York (June 21) and Ostrava (June 24) will follow before the train stops for just over a month before action resumes at the
Szekesfehervar in Hungary on 12 August while Beijing will host the final Continental Tour Gold meeting of the season on 7 September, just six days before the first day of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.

A number of Nigerian athletes are expected to be in action in some of the meetings led by World 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan and Olympic Shot Put finalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.

It is expected that Paris 2024 Olympics 200m finalist, Favour Ofili will make her debut in the event in Europe.
