Brume, Amusan Out of Stockholm Diamond League
Long jumper Ese Brume will have to wait at least another 20 days to know if she can return to Diamond League action, as she has not been listed for the BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm, the seventh leg of the prestigious one-day elite track and field series.
Brume, who finished fifth in Stockholm in July 2023, has not competed in the Diamond League since September 2023, when she placed second with a 6.85m jump at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, USA. The Nigerian athlete has been making a comeback after recovering from a car accident, and she now hopes to return to Diamond League action at Hayward Field in Oregon, where she last competed.
Sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan is also absent from the Stockholm event. Amusan, who won in Stockholm in 2023, has already competed three times in the Diamond League this season. However, her 12.45-second performance at the Rabat Diamond League was not achieved in a Diamond League event, as the 100m hurdles was not part of the competition’s lineup.
The 28-year-old high hurdler will be looking to secure a spot in the Paris Diamond League five days later when the series moves to its eighth stop out of 15 scheduled events.
Amusan will be aiming to reclaim the Diamond League 100m hurdles title she lost without putting up a defence in 2024 while Brume will be keen to upgrade from second in 2023 to first in the long jump.
