Brume and Ugen set to resume rivalry at Botswana Golden Grand Prix

Nigeria’s Ese Brume and Great Britain’s Lorraine Ugen will renew their rivalry in the long jump at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, this year’s second World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Gaborone on Saturday.

Brume and Ugen claimed long jump silver and bronze, respectively, at last year’s World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

They clashed again in the world final in Oregon – where Brume secured silver – and in the Commonwealth Games final in Birmingham – won by Brume – and now they meet again.

Brume holds a 12-3 lead over the Briton in their head-to- head clashes and the Nigerian, making her season’s debut in the long jump will be hoping to make a statement as she sets her sight on turning the silver medal she won in Oregon to gold when the World Athletics Championships train stops in Budapest, Hungary in August.

The 27 year old has won bronze and silver at World Athletics’ flagship event in 2019 and 2022 respectively and will be seeking to not only make it gold this time but also become the first Nigerian to win medals three times in the same event and at different Championships.
