Bruno Fernandes: ‘Amorin can transform Man United like he did to Sporting CP’
Bruno Fernandes is optimistic Ruben Amorim can replicate what he did at Portuguese side, Sporting with Manchester United.
The 39-year-old was appointed coach of Manchester United on November 11, 2024 following the sack of Dutchman Erik ten Hag on October 28, 2024.
Amorim led Sporting CP to their second Primeira Liga last season and has won all 11 games played so far this term in the competition, scoring 39 goals and conceding just five.
He looks to be guiding the club to claim back-to-back Primeira Liga titles for the first time since the 1950s and the Manchester United captain believes Amorin can transfer the fortunes of the Red Devils who are looking for their first Premier League title since they last won in 2012/13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘I hope he does the same here because you know sometimes a person can change the energy of a space, if it’s the right moment. We hope that he can come, and this is the right moment for him to come and bring his energy, bring his qualities and his knowledge of football, because he’s done something really, really special at Sporting.
‘If someone doubts that, it’s about just looking at the past.
‘Sporting was to be about 20 years without winning the league, and he got back to win the league, and he won it two times in four years with a really youthful team, in a moment of change.
‘So hopefully he can do the same here for us and [hopefully] it’s going to be a successful time for all of us,’ Fernandes told the club’s official website.
