Bukayo Saka bidding to make Premier League history, score 60th Arsenal goal

Nigeria-born England international and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will be bidding to make Premier League history on Saturday when the Gunners play host to Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City at the Emirates.

The 23-year-old created a little bit of Premier League history in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City as his pint-point corner was headed home by defender, Gabriel to give the Gunners a 2-1 lead.

That action was his fifth assist of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign already, with one coming in each of the Gunners’ opening five games so far.

That streak saw him draw level with Thierry Henry in the league’s best-ever runs of assists at the start of a season, with the Frenchman doing so back in 2004/05.

Another assist on Saturday against the Foxes would give him the record outright, and also put him within touching distance of equaling Mesut Ozil holds the league record of eight consecutive appearances with an assist, which came back in 2015/16.

Saka’s five assists ensure he leads the Premier League’s assist charts so far this season, one ahead of Cole Palmer and Mohammed Salah, while his six goal involvements out of the eight netted mean he’s played a part in 75% of Arsenal’s domestic goals this term.

The England international has also scored 59 goals and 58 assists in 233 games across all competitions and will be looking to make it 60 in 234 games on Saturday.

As many as 48 of the 59 goals and 40 of the 58 assists he has provided thus far have come in 175 Premier League appearances as he also guns for his 102nd Premier League wins.

If he scores on Saturday, he will be just two goals shy of Emmanuel Adebayor not only as the 25th most prolific forward in Arsenal history but also the second player with Nigerian blood to top score for the north London side.

Saka was Arsenal top scorer last season with 16 goals, three more than Kai Havertz and he was second (9) behind Martin Odegaard (10) in terms of assists provided.
