Bundesliga.com says Guirassy deserves to win 2024 CAF African Player of the Year award ahead of Lookman

Bundesliga.com, the official website of Germany’s topflight league, the Bundesliga says Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy is the best footballer in Africa in 2024 and thus deserves to be crowned 2024 African Player of the Year ahead of Nigeria and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Guirassy will be competing against winger, Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast / Brighton), defender, Achraf Hakimi (Morocco / Paris Saint-Germain), winger, Lookman and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams (South Africa / Mamelodi Sundowns).

The Bundesliga.com believes the Guinean’s goals in 2024 while at VFB Stuttgart and now Dortmund make him the perfect candidate to succeed Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.

The 28-year-old Guirassy smashed Mario Gómez’s 19-year club record for most goals in a single Bundesliga campaign and his 28 goals put him second in Europe’s big five leagues, ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland and behind only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Guirassy took VFB Stuttgart to second in the Bundesliga table ahead of Bayern and a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 14 years.
He also scored numerous match-winning goals in the Bundesliga.

Since he switched Stuttgart for Dortmund at the end of last season, he has scored nine times and provided four assists in 13 appearances across all competitions.

Bundesliga.com believes that with Guirassy’s ‘record of 26 goals and five assists in 37 games for club and country over the 2024 voting period, none of the Guinean’s fellow nominess have made such a strong case to lift the African Player of the Year award on 16 December in Marrakech, Morocco.

Bundesliga.com believes not even Lookman who scored thrice and provided an assist to inspire Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February this year and his hat-trick which helped Atalanta to win their first European title in May deserve the crown more than a Guinean who won nothing and could not score a goal and could not inspire his country past the quarterfinals at AFCON 2023.
