CAF Confederation Cup: Hope renewed as Enyimba grab first continental win in 10 games!
Enyimba international football club of Aba pounded the Black Bulls of Mozambique 4-1 in their matchday four game of the CAF Confederation Cup tie played Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The win, their first in the group stage of the competition after two defeats and a draw is also the Peoples Elephants’ first in the continental in 10 games, and first in their last 11 games.
The two-time CAF Champions League winner has not won a game since they defeated Ikorodu City FC in a Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, game in late October.
Joseph Atule scored on six minutes to put Enyimba ahead in the game, the team’s first goal in five minutes but the celebration was short-lived as Ejaita Ifoni restored parity six minutes later.
The home side, determined to secure their first group stage win and avenge their 3-0 loss in the first leg went ahead again for the second time in the game when Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scored on the dot of 90 minutes.
Former Nigeria international striker, Brown Ideye who joined the club at the start of the year was subbed on and he made an immediate impact as he extended Enyimba’s advantage to two goals by netting the third goal on 67 minutes while Atule scored his second of the game and fourth for Enyimba at the dot of 90 minutes.
Enyimba are on four points from four matches with their opponent, just one point behind of the two Egyptian clubs in the group, Al Masry who the Aba based team hosts on January 12 in Uyo.
A win for the Nigerians will push them to second on the log with seven points while hoping table toppers with eight points, Zamalek of Egypt travel to Maputo to play Black Bulls.
