Camacho-Quinn extends head-to-head record Vs Russell to 8-1 with win in Italy

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran 12.88 into a -1.6ms head wind to win the 100m hurdles Sunday at the 2024 Grand Prix Lombardia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event in Brescia, Italy.

The Puerto Rican defeated the woman who dethroned her as Olympic champion, Masai Russell of the USA who ran 12.91 to come second while Italy’s Giada Carmassi was third in 13.42.

Camacho-Quinn has now defeated Russell twice within a week and eight times in nine head-to-head clashes. The only time Russell defeated Camacho-Quinn was in the final of the event at the Paris 2024 Olympics last month.

Both athletes will clash again at the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium where a top prize of $30,000, a Diamond Trophy and a wild card to the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan next year will be on offer for the winner.

Also in Brescia, Brussels-bound African record holder, Marie-Jose Ta Lou-Smith ran into a -2.4ms head wind to win the 100m event 11.28 while Beatrice Chebet who won the 5000m and 10000m at the Olympics ran 8:34.10 to win the women’s 3000m.
