Camacho-Quinn goes 10-6 over Amusan with Ostrava win
Reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn made it 10 wins against Tobi Amusan’s six after the Puerto Rican stormed
to a 12.42 win to set a new Golden Spike meeting record at the 62nd edition of the event in Ostrava, Czech Republic on
Tuesday.
It was also Camacho-Quinn’s second win over the Nigerian who ran a 12.47 personal season’s best to finish third in the
race.
The Olympic champion won when both athletes clashed at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix at the end of the May.
The Puerto Rican ran 12.31 to win ahead of the Nigerian who finished eighth (12.69).
The duo started their rivalry when they were both student athletes in the United States of American with Camacho-Quinn
drawing the first blood at the 2016 NCAA finals in Eugene, Oregon.
Amusan responded the following year at the same venue as she was crowned the NCAA outdoor track and field champion.
While Camacho-Quinn sped past Amusan and two others to win the Olympic gold in 2021, the 26 year old Nigerian extracted her
pound of flesh in a devastating way the following year at the World Athletics Championships, setting a 12.12 world record
on her way to winning the world title.
The duo will clash again on Friday at the Athletissma in Lausanne, Switzerland where the Diamond League will make its sixth
of scheduled 14 stops.
Camacho-Quinn ran a new 12.34 meeting record to win ahead of Amusan last year in Lausanne and the Puerto Rican will be seeking for a repeat.
Amusan will however be encouraged to break 12.50 for the first time at this stage like she did last year and will feel she is on track towards a successful defence of her world title in August’s World Athletics Championships.
