Camacho-Quinn storms to 12.39 personal season’s best in Hengelo, set to defend Olympic gold
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn proved Sunday that she is very much in shape to defend her Olympic gold after storming to a 12.39 personal season’s best to win the 100m hurdles event at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, Netherlands.
The Puerto Rican won the race ahead of home girl, Nadine Visser who also ran a new 12.46 personal best and national record with South Africa’s Fourie Marione also running inside 12.50 (12.49) to set a national record.
Camacho-Quinn ran 12.37 to win the Olympic title three years ago in Tokyo, Japan but the 27 year old has failed to live up to the hiogh standard she set with the win, losing the World title twice in 2022 and 2023 and the Diamond League title in 2022 and 2023.
She has now moved to joint eighth in the world this year and will feel confident to challenge the American trio of Masai Russell (12.25), Alaysha Johnson and Grace Stark (12.31), French girl, Cyréna Samba-Mayela (12.31) and Jamaican, Ackera Nuggent (12.28).
Lurking in the shadow is also Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the 2022 World champion and reigning world record holder.
