Camacho-Quinn storms to 12.47 in Zagreb, serves Amusan Diamond League final warning

Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn seems to have gotten over the disappointment of not winning the World Championships 100m hurdles gold for the second straight edition in Budapest last month after scorching to a 12.47 finish in Zagreb, Croatia to win the Final 2 of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event Sunday evening.

The 27 year old finished in second place in Budapest last month and failed to add the World outdoor title to the Olympic gold she won in Tokyo in 2021 but will be keen to end her season by winning the last major silverware of the season in the event and confirm her status as world number one ranked 100m hurdles runner in 2023.

Standing between the Puerto Rican is former World 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan who will also want to make amends for her inability to successfully defend her world title in Budapest.

Amusan is the event’s defending champion and will make history if she wins for the third straight year when the final is run in Eugene, Oregon this weekend.

The Nigerian, 26, will become the second woman in Diamond League history to win a hat-trick of 100m hurdles title after Dawn Nelson-Harper.

The Commonwealth Games champion and record holder will however need to be in a great state of mind and pre-Budapest World Championships form to make further history on the same Hayward Field track in Eugene, Oregon where she became the first Nigerian to set a world outdoor record and win a first outdoor title last year.

If the Puerto Rican should win, it will not only be her first Diamond League trophy win but also her 13th win in 19 head to head encounters with the Nigerian.

Interestingly, Camacho-Quinn has won on all four occassions the duo met this year.
