CAS Registers Senegal’s Challenge to CAF Ruling as Teranga Lions Seek AFCON 2025 Title Reversal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially registered an appeal by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The appeal challenges CAF’s March 17 decision declaring Senegal to have forfeited the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 final in Morocco, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.

The FSF is seeking to overturn the ruling and be declared winners of the tournament.

In its filing, the federation also requested suspension of the deadline to submit its appeal brief until CAF provides the full written grounds of its decision, which so far has been issued only in operative form.

CAS confirmed that an arbitral panel will be appointed to handle the matter, after which a procedural calendar will be set.

Under CAS rules, appellants normally have 20 days to file their brief, with respondents then given another 20 days to reply.

However, given Senegal’s request to suspend deadlines, the timeline remains uncertain and no hearing date has yet been scheduled.

CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb emphasized the institution’s readiness to manage the dispute.

‘CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of case, with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators. We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.’

Proceedings remain confidential until a hearing is scheduled, with CAS promising to provide accurate updates to the media in due course.
