Reigning African and Diamond League 5000m champion, Chebet Beatrice ran a new 8:25.09 lifetime best and meeting record to win the 3000m at the Oslo Diamond League meeting on Thursday and restated her focus for the year-to win another 5000m medal for Kenya at the World Athletics Championships in August.

The 23 year old’s time is also the fastest in the world this year.

Chebet is determined to return to the World Athletics Championships stage this August in Budapest, Hungary to make the podium for the second straight championships after winning a silver medal in Oregon, USA in 2022.

The Kenyan told reporters after the race she owes her feat to God and was delighted to run a new lifetime best.

‘First of all, I want to thank to God and secondly, I am very thankful because I managed to run my PB (personal best) and I can see my progress.

‘In my event, self-confidence is very important and also perseverance. The race was not easy but I had to believe in myself. As you know, we are preparing for the world championships, I will try for my best and I will run 5000m.

‘My goal is to go there and bring a medal for my country. That is my main target now. The key to achieve this is to trust God, then to work hard and just believe in yourself.

‘When Faith Kipyegon ran in Paris, I was watching it and I got very motivated. I said, one day, one time, even me, I will do it.. Step by step.’
