Chelle: ‘We Are Ready’ for AFCON 2025 Quarter-Final Showdown Vs Algeria

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has described Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal against Algeria as a ‘big game’ where both sides have equal chances of progressing.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Chelle emphasised the magnitude of the encounter: ‘This is a big game because it is in the quarterfinals, a big game against a big team. We think about the way we play the game, and we are ready.’

The Super Eagles boss acknowledged Algeria’s strong form but insisted Nigeria are equally prepared.

‘The chances are equal between the two teams. The Algerian team is at its best and we are the same. We hope the fans enjoy a big game.’

Chelle also highlighted the importance of tactical preparation and mental strength.

‘We try to find the weaknesses of the opponent and make my players understand them. That’s what the Algerian coach does too. In a big tournament, the state of mind is very important, you deal with pressure, the opponent, and the coach’s instructions.’

Nigeria head into the clash with momentum after a commanding 4-0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16, while Algeria survived extra time against DR Congo to reach the last eight.

The quarter-final in Marrakech is expected to be one of the tournament’s most finely balanced contests.
