Chuba Akpom sets Championship record in Middlesbrough comeback win

Nigeria-eligible forward, Chuba Akpom became the first player in Championship history to score in nine consecutive home games when he helped Middlesbrough came back from a goal down to defeat Hull City 3-1 at the Riverside stadium.

The visitors scored first on 41 minutes through Allahyar Sayyad but three second half goals in six minutes saw the home side turned the tide to move a step closer to securing their place in the Championship play-offs.

Akpom completed the comeback with the third goal on 61 minutes after Hayden Hackney drew them level on 55 minutes and Cameron Archer made it 2-1 three minutes later.

The goal was the 28th in 35 games for the London born player who wants to play for Nigeria. It was also his ninth consecutive home goal at the Riverside stadium since he scored in Middlesbrough’s 2-0 defeat pf Watford at the end of January.

Akpom is the top scoring player in the Championship with his 28 goals, eight more than Viktor Gyökeres of Coventry City and nine more than Luton Town’s Carlton Morris who are second and third respectively in the race.

The 27 year old’s goals represent 34.1% of the total number of goals scored by the club in the Championship so far this season.
