Chukwueze becomes 45th Nigerian EPL scorer, tops charts this season with Iwobi
Samuel Chukwueze has become the 45th Nigerian to score in the Premier League, marking his arrival in English football with a stunning brace against Manchester City at Craven Cottage.
His two goals not only etched his name into history but also lifted him to the top of the Nigerian scoring charts in the league this season. With three assists already to his name, Chukwueze is also the leading Nigerian creator in the Premier League, showing his all-round influence on Fulham’s attack.
The winger came off the bench with Fulham trailing 3-1, and although City extended their lead to 5-1, Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi inspired a spirited fightback.
Iwobi struck first with his maiden goal against City, before Chukwueze fired home from the edge of the box for his first Premier League goal, confirmed after a VAR review.
Minutes later, he added a second with a clinical finish from 15 yards, sending the home crowd into raptures as Fulham closed the gap to 5-4.
Man City eventually held on to secure their 17th consecutive win over the Cottagers, but the night belonged to Chukwueze.
His brace means he now leads Nigerian scorers in the Premier League this season with Iwobi with two goals each.
Yet in the broader history of Nigerian players in the competition, Yakubu Aiyegbeni remains the benchmark, holding the record with 95 goals.
