Chukwueze Closes in on Nigerian Premier League Assist Record

Samuel Chukwueze continued his impressive creative form in the Premier League after providing an assist in Fulham’s 3-2 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

The AC Milan loanee’s contribution was his fourth assist of the campaign, achieved in only nine league appearances, further strengthening his position as the Nigerian with the most assists in the Premier League this season.

Chukwueze now sits two assists clear of his closest challenger, Alex Iwobi, who also plays for Fulham. The Super Eagles winger is now just three assists away from equalling the all‑time Premier League single season assist record for a Nigerian player, a record jointly held by Iwobi and Osaze Odemwingie.

Iwobi registered seven assists during the 2022/23 season, a campaign in which he famously started all 38 Premier League matches, matching Joseph Yobo’s long standing appearance record for a Nigerian.

More than a decade earlier, Odemwingie had set the benchmark with seven assists and 15 goals in his remarkable debut Premier League season for West Bromwich Albion in 2010/11.

With as many as 29 league games still remaining this season, Chukwueze is widely tipped to surpass both Iwobi and Odemwingie and set a new assist record for a Nigerian in a single Premier League campaign.
