Chukwueze: How I rejected Saudi millions to sign for AC Milan in 2023
AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze has told Italy’s number one sports newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport how he snubbed the opportunity to leave European football and earn more money in the Saudi Pro League one year ago.
The Nigerian joined the Rossonerri at the start of the 2023/24 season from LaLiga side, Villarreal where he scored 37 goals and provided 31 assists in 207 games.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport he sight was fixed on AC Milan when the opportunity came and rejected the temptation of earning more money in Saudi Arabia.
‘If money was my motivation, I would have signed for the Saudi Arabian club who wanted me at the time,’ said the Nigerian.
‘My mind was set only on Milan. My agent told me, ‘Hey, look, there’s this money…’. But I said: ‘I don’t want to go anywhere else’. So he gave up. If that money comes, it will come. The most important thing now is to believe in myself, I’m still young, I want to make it, I have to stay in Europe,’ he explained.
Chukwueze also revealed he was offered much more than €10 million net per season by the Saudi Pro League side which he refused to mention.
The Nigerian is earning just over €5m a year at AC Milan.
