Commonwealth Youth Games: Okwose, Eyakpobeyan set Games record, set to finish 1 and 2 in 100m final

Like they both did in Ndola barely three months ago, the duo of reigning African U18 double sprint champion, Faith Okwose and Eyakpobeyan Justina, will battle for the 100m title at the ongoing Junior Commonwealth Games Monday night.

Both are in the final after setting the Games record in their respective heats. Okwose ran 11.42 to win the first semifinal heat. The time was a new Games record for a few minutes as her compatriot, Eyakpobeyan stormed to an 11.35 finish to break the record.

In the final later Monday night, Eyakpobeyan, who came second behind Okwose at the African U18 championships, will run from lane three while the reigning African champion has been drawn to run from lane five.

For the boys, Okon Isreal Sunday has been drawn in lane six from where he will battle Jamaica’s Gordon Shaquane Gehvon (lane 4) for the gold medal.
